Another fantastic walking tour through the heart of Silesia – the picturesque city of Katowice. This dynamic center of culture, history, and modernity looks to the future while cherishing its rich past. It is also the largest city in terms of population and area in Upper Silesia.
In recent years, Katowice has undergone a tremendous transformation. Not long ago, many people primarily associated this city with heavy industry, coal, and steel. However, the city has come a long way and is now the modern capital of a metropolis with a population of 2 million inhabitants.
For many years, the mine shaft tower was a distinctive landmark for those visiting the capital of Silesia. And it still is, but now the „Warsaw II” tower serves a completely different purpose. It has been given new life as an observation point, offering panoramic views of the modern and vibrant city of Katowice. Surrounding this area are impressive buildings such as the edifice of the National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio, the Silesian Museum, and the International Congress Center. The ensemble is complemented by other significant landmarks like the renowned „Spodek” – a multifunctional sports and entertainment arena with a design resembling a spaceship – and modern skyscrapers like .KTW with its distinctive architecture, along with Altus, the tallest building in the Silesian Voivodeship.
